Yes. Bipedortho has designed its service to comply with the Code of Ethics of the Ordre des infirmières et infirmiers du Québec (OIIQ). Under Section 78, registered nurses are permitted to sell products in two specific situations:
Section 78 – A nurse may not sell, engage in, or participate for profit in the distribution of medications, devices, or products related to their professional practice, except in the following circumstances:
1° When the sale of a product or device meets an immediate need of the patient and is required as part of the care or treatment being provided. In such cases, the patient must be informed of any profit earned by the nurse from the sale.
2° When the nurse clearly separates the location where care is provided from the location where products or devices are sold, and their professional title is not associated with the commercial activities.
That said, with Bipedortho, you are not involved in selecting or selling the product. Your role is simply to enter the prescription information and take the required measurements. From that point on, Bipedortho takes over and manages the entire process.
Yes. Bipedortho has ensured that its operating model complies with the Code of Ethics of the Ordre des infirmières et infirmiers auxiliaires du Québec (OIIAQ).
In addition, the Ordre des infirmières et infirmiers auxiliaires du Québec considers that Section 37(p) of the Professional Code allows its members to collect data, including prescription information, and enter it into the platform.
Section 37(p) of the Professional Code – A member of the Ordre des infirmières et infirmiers auxiliaires du Québec may perform the following professional activities, in addition to those otherwise permitted by law: contribute to the assessment of a person's health status and the development of a care plan, provide nursing and medical care and treatments aimed at maintaining health, restoring health, preventing illness, and providing palliative care.
Since these products meet an immediate need of the patient and are required as part of the care and treatments to be provided, the Order is also of the opinion that its members comply with Section 76 of the Code of Ethics of Licensed Practical Nurses by offering this service.
Section 76 of the Code of Ethics of Licensed Practical Nurses – A member may not sell, engage in, or participate for profit in the distribution of medications, devices, or products related to their profession, except where the sale involves products or devices that meet an immediate need of the patient and are required as part of the care and treatments to be provided.
That said, with Bipedortho, you are not involved in selecting or selling the product. Your role is simply to complete the prescription information and take the required measurements. From that point on, Bipedortho takes over and manages the entire process.
